Learn the basics of Japanese sashiko hand stitching and apply it to embellish a set of cocktail napkins.
Sashiko is a Japanese running stitch traditionally used to mend and strengthen textiles and clothing, as well as creating geometric patterns.
You will learn how to work with sashiko needles and thread and sew a running stitch. You will also learn how to use stick-on templates to stitch pre-printed holiday designs (we will use Sulky Stick and Stitch). Non-holiday designs will also be available.
Each student will take home a set of sashiko needles, two skeins of thread, and four cocktail napkins. Additional napkins and thread will be available for purchase. Add some handmade flair to your next happy hour, and they also make great gifts!
Sashiko is an excellent way to slow down and stitch with mindfulness. I find the beauty in its imperfection and its simplicity, flexibility and adaptability to many projects.
This workshop is for sewers of all levels, from beginners to experienced.
Wednesday Dec 9th 6:30-8:30
